Looking for Next Steps Beyond the Blue Bracelets?
You’re Not Alone in This Moment of Fear & Uncertainty
We understand the fear that’s surfaced for many after the election results. But here’s the truth:
The movement has been in motion for generations & ready to welcome you, but—
First, you must decenter yourself & your personal fears to focus on centering the collective, which includes women of the global majority—here & across the world.
Stand in Solidarity Beyond Your Own Struggles
If you center only the issues that affect you personally, you risk not being taken seriously in these movements for justice. To truly stand in solidarity, you must witness & acknowledge the atrocities unfolding globally—in Palestine, Sudan, Congo, & beyond. Start learning & speaking up against genocide, calling out the corporations, billionaires, & institutions that fund harm. Start committing to boycotts that disrupt these systems. Standing up for justice means broadening your focus & using your voice to amplify the cries for freedom & dignity everywhere. This is the work of true solidarity, & it’s essential for meaningful change.
It’s Time to Stop Blaming Each Other
The ruling class has mastered the art of dividing us, turning us against each other to keep their power intact.
It’s time to hold them accountable & take collective action.
We must stop upholding white supremacist capitalist imperialist patriarchy & begin building a world rooted in justice, solidarity, & liberation for ALL—including Mother Earth, who we are destroying through extractive, exploitative, relentless capitalism.
Decolonize Your Mind
If you want to help the world, focus on fighting the empire. Start educating yourself on empire. Cultivate a habit of small acts of rebellion. Do something every day to help de-normalize the abuses of empire.
In this context, empire isn’t limited to a single political party, country, or government; it encompasses global systems that sustain inequality, suppress marginalized communities, & uphold the power of the ruling class at the expense of collective well-being. When activists call to “decolonize” or dismantle empire, they challenge these interconnected systems & advocate for justice, liberation, & sustainability for all people & the planet.
Once you recognize these connections, you’ll see the world differently. Revolution Is Now.
Listening to Generations of Wisdom
Honor & deeply value the wisdom of Queer, Trans, Black, Indigenous People of Color (QTBIPOC) who have sustained this work through generations. Their wisdom is vital, reminding us that true freedom is not just personal—it’s collective. Draw on their generational knowledge, voices that have nurtured communities of joy, resilience, & healing even in the face of systemic oppression. Their guidance teaches us how to intertwine resistance, love, & care, nurturing community bonds that uplift all of us.
I’ve learned so much from their past & present wisdom. We must begin to share this burden. We need to step up, support, & use our privilege to carry their work forward together toward a better world.
Stepping Back to Uplift Generational Wisdom
It’s necessary to examine how privilege shows up, even within marginalized identities like being queer. Our own struggles don’t erase the ways we might hold power in other areas, & that power, if unchecked, can cause harm. Individualism often leads us to focus inward, centering our own experiences at the expense of understanding the broader, interconnected fight for liberation. Engaging with Black thought & QTBIPOC wisdom requires humility & respect. This isn’t about taking their knowledge, reshaping it, & claiming it—it’s about resisting the pull to treat these ideas as commodities. Instead, we must honor the depth of their work, allow their leadership to guide us, & recognize the histories of resilience & care that sustain it. True solidarity means stepping back, listening, & contributing to a collective effort rather than claiming ownership. Liberation can never be individual; it’s built in community, led by voices who know its necessity most intimately.
Connect Locally with Grassroots & Mutual Aid Organizations
Look for groups focused on human rights, harm reduction, anti-racism, LGBTQ+ support, animal welfare, & quality of life issues. Local nonprofits & mutual aid networks are essential spaces for you to get involved & learn from those doing this work on the ground. By joining these efforts, you’ll find opportunities to build meaningful relationships, deepen your understanding, & directly support the needs of your community. Mutual aid & grassroots groups operate on the principles of solidarity & shared responsibility, showing us that we’re stronger when we work together. Each small act of support—whether it’s donating money, time, resources, or skills—helps create a network of care that can support entire communities.
Shifting from Individualism to Collective Care
Community care goes beyond personal acts of kindness; it’s about creating a shared foundation of support where everyone’s needs are prioritized. This kind of care means leaning on each other, not as a last resort, but as a primary approach to meeting life’s demands. We move away from the idea that everyone should be self-sufficient, recognizing instead that we are all interconnected, & that collective well-being is essential to individual well-being.
This shift won’t happen all at once. But by redefining care as a collective responsibility & creating networks of support that honor everyone’s needs, we build a foundation for lasting change.
Engage with Your Local Arts Community—Support & Listen
Find a poetry open mic or a community arts collective or space where marginalized voices are sharing their truths. You don’t have to speak; listen. Let these stories be the bridge to understanding & solidarity. In these spaces, we learn the importance of vulnerability & the trust it builds, allowing us to witness the raw honesty & resilience in each shared experience.
Approach these spaces with humility, & you’ll find that you are not alone in so many of your struggles; you may even walk away with new friends & community.
